Cowboys Dancehall Closes After More Than 20 Years in San Antonio
October 2026
SAN ANTONIO, TX — One of San Antonio's most recognizable country music and nightlife venues has closed after more than two decades in business.
Cowboys Dancehall announced its closure in October 2026, ending a long run as a destination for country music, dancing, concerts, and nightlife in San Antonio.
The large entertainment venue attracted generations of San Antonio residents as well as visitors to the city.
Over the years, Cowboys Dancehall became known for country dancing, live entertainment, special events, and its large dance floor.
In announcing the closure, the business pointed to extended construction activity surrounding its location as one of the major challenges affecting operations.
According to the venue, construction in the surrounding area is expected to continue through 2028.
The business said it had made significant efforts to overcome the challenges but ultimately determined that there was no viable way to continue operating under the current circumstances.
The announcement generated an emotional response from longtime customers who shared memories of nights spent dancing, attending concerts, meeting friends, and celebrating special occasions at the venue.
For more than 20 years, Cowboys Dancehall played a notable role in San Antonio's nightlife scene.
Its closure also illustrates the potential impact that long-term road and infrastructure construction can have on businesses that depend heavily on accessibility and consistent customer traffic.
San Antonio continues to invest heavily in transportation, infrastructure, and redevelopment projects throughout the city.
While those improvements are intended to support long-term growth, construction can create challenges for businesses located directly within affected areas.
For now, the closure ends Cowboys Dancehall's long run at its San Antonio location.
The business thanked its customers and community for supporting the venue throughout its more than two decades of operation.
